TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The national teams of Spain, Belgium, Scotland, Austria, and Switzerland secured berths in the final round of the 2026 World Cup on the early morning of Wednesday, November 19, 2025. They followed in the footsteps of England, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, and Croatia, who had already advanced.
Spain ensured their place in the 2026 World Cup after drawing 2-2 with Turkey in Seville. They finished undefeated and topped Group E with 16 points, three points ahead of Turkey, who qualified for the playoff round.
The reigning European champions took the lead through Dani Olmo in the fourth minute. However, Turkey, needing a near-impossible seven-goal victory to secure a place in the group, managed to equalize through Deniz Gul in the 42nd minute.
Turkey then shocked the home crowd by taking the lead in the 54th minute, courtesy of a strike by Salih Ozcan from the edge of the penalty area. But Mikel Oyarzabal leveled the score eight minutes later to avoid Spain's first home defeat in the qualifiers.
In other matches, Belgium defeated Liechtenstein 7-0 to secure their place in the 2025 World Cup. They also ended their campaign undefeated.
Jeremy Doku and Charles De Ketelaere each scored two goals, while Hans Vanaken, Brandon Mechele, and Alexis Saelemaekers contributed one goal each.
Their fifth win in eight matches gave Belgium a total of 18 points at the top of Group J, two points more than runner-up Wales. Belgium will compete in their 15th World Cup final round, having reached the semifinals twice before.
Scotland advanced after a 4-2 victory over Denmark. They topped the final standings of Group C with 13 points, two points ahead of Denmark, who qualified for the playoff.
Austria also secured a spot after drawing 1-1 with Bosnia. They led Group H with 19 points, two points ahead of Bosnia.
Meanwhile, Switzerland advanced to the final round after a 1-1 draw in Kosovo. They topped Group B with 14 points, three points ahead of Kosovo.
These five teams joined England, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, and Croatia. Thus, all the slots from the first round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in the European zone have been filled. The other four spots for the final round will be contested in the second round of qualifiers, with 16 teams involved, comprising 12 group runner-ups and the top four teams from the UEFA Nations League.
