TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's state-owned construction company PT PP (PTPP) announced that the revitalization project of Terminal 1 at Soekarno-Hatta Airport has entered its final stage and has begun operating gradually. The Rp1.3 trillion project, which began in 2019, has seen significant progress.
Corporate Secretary of PTPP, Joko Raharjo, explained that the revitalization of Terminal 1C brings about major improvements to the passenger experience and airport operations.
"PTPP has made comprehensive improvements through beautifying the building, modernizing the interior, and reactivating utility systems and main equipment. Terminal 1C now appears more spacious, modern, efficient, and ready to serve the surge in national aviation demands," said Joko during the disclosure of information at the Indonesia Stock Exchange, as quoted on Thursday, November 20, 2025.
Terminal 1C now has a service area of 68,168 m², up from the previous 48,212 m², with an increased capacity from three million to eight million passengers per year. Overall, the revitalization of Terminal 1 has increased the airport's capacity from nine million to 24 million passengers per year.
Joko stated that the completion of this revitalization coincides with the upcoming Christmas and New Year holidays, allowing the terminal to accommodate the increased mobility of travelers.
Additionally, Joko mentioned that one of the main features of this revitalization is the installation of synthetic rattan ceilings with batik motifs in the terminal's commercial areas. This material is not only aesthetic and environmentally friendly, but also reflects the blend of Indonesian cultural values with modern designs in an international airport setting.
More than 200 MSME craftspeople from Tangerang, Serang, and Cirebon played a role in manually assembling 1,785 ceiling modules in less than 25 days, showcasing the skill, precision, and dedication of local craftsmen. Truntum, Kawung, and Samar motifs were chosen to present heritage character in the airport's public spaces.
