TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Roblox is updating its terms for users regarding adult experiences, including prohibiting “content, settings, or behavior that implies sexual activity.” According to The Verge, on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, this announcement was made by Matt Kaufman, Roblox's Chief Safety Officer.
The policy changes come after lawsuits against Roblox, including from the Attorney General of the State of Louisiana, alleging the platform is creating an environment where "child predators thrive."
Roblox's Explanation
Roblox denies allegations that its platform is vulnerable to exploitation or crimes against children. As quoted from Engadget, Roblox detailed the changes, including restricting all unrated experiences.
According to Roblox, the company has released many safety features in recent months, including age estimation verification for users over 13 years old. There is also a feature for parental account management linked to their children, allowing them to monitor activities. Roblox also blocks access for accounts of children under 13 from gathering spaces.
Kaufman explained that in the coming months, Roblox will restrict all experiences not classified with a rating, which was previously limited to users over 13 years old. Even if someone can access it, it will only be available to creators and those who have been active in the experience. "If a developer wants to make these experiences public, they will have to fill out a questionnaire to receive a content maturity label," the report wrote.
Roblox will also release new technology to detect experiences with violent scenes. This technology is intended to detect user behaviors that violate Roblox's rules. "If this feature detects a server with a high volume of violative user behavior, the system will automatically take that server down," Kaufman said.
Gathering spaces that depict private spaces, such as bedrooms or bathrooms, or experiences related to adult activities, such as virtual bars or clubs, will only be available to users over 17 years old.
This will be reverified by the platform to ensure user identities are not manipulated. Creators who want to make experiences with such nuances must also verify that they are over 17 years old.
