TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan presented a prestigious award to President Prabowo Subianto during his visit to the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Friday, November 14, 2025.
The honor bestowed by King Abdullah was the Bejewelled Grand Cordon of Al Nahda (Order of the Renaissance). King Abdullah II personally presented the award to President Prabowo in the credential room of the Merdeka Palace following a closed bilateral meeting.
According to the official website of the Royal Hashemite Court, the Al Nahda medal is a Jordanian Kingdom award traditionally bestowed upon kings, princes, heads of state, and sometimes prime ministers.
The Al Nahda medal is also given to civilian individuals and military personnel, both Arab and foreign, as an acknowledgment for their extraordinary services at a national, regional, or international level.
King Abdullah II's visit is a return visit following President Prabowo's trip to Jordan a few months prior. At that time, President Prabowo emphasized his long-time friendship with the King, noting they had known each other since they were young.
"Indeed, a long-time friend, since we were still young," Prabowo said in Amman, Jordan, as monitored on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel on Monday, April 14, 2025.
The friendship, according to Prabowo, has lasted until now. He also stated that although they are now older, both he and Abdullah II still maintain high spirits. "We are still spirited," he said.
Both King Abdullah and President Prabowo are alumni of the United States Army Ranger School at Fort Benning. They first met on December 4, 1995, during Prabowo's inauguration as the Commander of the Army Special Forces (Kopassus).
King Abdullah II ascended to the throne as the King of Jordan in 1999, while Prabowo was inaugurated as the President of the Republic of Indonesia on October 20, 2024.
