TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian president Prabowo Subianto witnessed the announcement of 10 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and strategic cooperation agreements between Indonesian and Japanese businesses worth US$22.6 billion (around Rp384.2 trillion) during the Indonesia-Japan Business Forum in Tokyo, Japan, on Monday, March 30, 2026.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, when contacted by Antara on Monday, said representatives of companies from both countries took turns presenting and showcasing the agreed partnerships before President Prabowo during the forum.
The announced cooperation spans a range of sectors, including the development of downstream projects based on clean energy, such as methanol production from carbon emissions, oil and gas exploration and development, geothermal energy development, as well as the strengthening of inclusive financial ecosystems and strategic investment.
“This moment is a strong symbol of the commitment of Indonesian and Japanese businesses to expand concrete collaboration while demonstrating strong confidence in Indonesia’s economic prospects,” Teddy said.
The list of announced memorandums of understanding is as follows:
MoU on methanol production using CO2 emissions from PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur (PKT) in Bontang, East Kalimantan, between PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur and PT Kaltim Methanol Industri.
MoU on cooperation in trade, commerce, and investment, between the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin Indonesia) and the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Strategic cooperation for the development of the Abadi gas field in Indonesia’s Masela Block, between PT Pertamina (Persero) and INPEX.
MoU on potential partnership opportunities in the upstream oil and gas sector in Indonesia and Southeast Asia, between PT Pertamina Hulu Energi and INPEX.
MoU on developing the semiconductor ecosystem in Indonesia and Japan, including the design and manufacturing of electronic chips and artificial intelligence, between PT Eblo Teknologi Indonesia and Hayashi Kinzoku Co., Ltd.
MoU on a series of studies toward the realization of the Rajabasa Geothermal Power Plant project, between PT Supreme Energy Rajabasa and INPEX.
MoU between SMBC Indonesia and Pegadaian to support Indonesia’s gold ecosystem and financial inclusion, between PT Pegadaian and PT Bank SMBC Indonesia.
MoU on the Indonesia-Japan Strategic Beauty Partnership, between PT Nose Herbal Indo and 2Way World.
MoU on the Mandiri Aviation Leasing Fund, involving PT Danantara Investment Management, Mandiri Investment Management, and SMBC Aviation Capital.
MoU on strengthening cooperation between JETRO and PT Danantara Investment Management.
