Prabowo Visits Railroad Settlements in Jakarta's Pasar Senen

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto made a visit to a settlement along the railroad tracks in the Kramat area of Pasar Senen, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, March 26, 2026. During the visit, Prabowo toured the neighborhood and engaged in conversation with local residents.

The President later shared footage of the encounter on his Instagram account, @prabowo. In a 4-minute 39-second video, Prabowo is seen visiting the trackside area accompanied by Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya and several Presidential Security Detail (Paspampres) personnel.

In his post, Prabowo noted that the area is roughly 3 kilometers from central Jakarta. "This afternoon, I walked through the settlement along the railroad tracks in the Senen area, Central Jakarta," he said.

Prabowo stated that he wanted to hear the aspirations of the people there. "God willing, we will soon build decent housing for the residents in that area quickly, and it is my commitment to provide proper housing for the people of Indonesia," he said.

The video begins with Prabowo entering the Pasar Gaplok area in Senen. The Gerindra Party Chair walked past small and medium-sized shops that were closed at the time, while several residents approached the President to shake his hand.

Prabowo then proceeded to the rear of Pasar Gaplok, located in close proximity to the active railroad tracks. There, some residents gathered to speak with the former defense minister.

While Prabowo stood at the edge of the tracks, trains passed by several times. Residents shouted warnings as the trains approached to ensure everyone moved safely away from the path.

Prabowo spent time chatting with those living along the tracks. At one point, he posed a question to the crowd: "If houses were built for you later, would you like it?" The residents responded to the President’s proposal with enthusiastic agreement.

As he prepared to depart, a large crowd of residents surrounded the President. Many reached out to shake his hand or even touch his back as he moved through the throng. The Head of State eventually left the scene in a Toyota Alphard bearing the license plate B 2962 BRU.

According to the Cabinet Secretariat, the visit was an impromptu decision. "The President suddenly wanted to see the residents who still live along the railroad tracks in the Senen area this afternoon," the official statement confirmed.
