TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has granted rehabilitation to two teachers from North Luwu Regency, South Sulawesi, namely Abdul Muis and Rasnal. It was decided after the president returned to the country on Thursday, November 13, 2025, following a state visit to Australia.
Deputy House Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad said the rehabilitation letter was signed directly by Prabowo at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta on Thursday, November 13, 2025. "Just now, the President has signed the rehabilitation letter for Mr. Rasnal and Mr. Abdul Muis, high school teachers from North Luwu," he said as quoted by the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube on Thursday.
Dasco said the two teachers had been brought to the Provincial House of Representatives (DPRD) of South Sulawesi by the public. After that, they were taken to the House of Representatives (DPR) before being facilitated to meet Prabowo. The rehabilitation aims to restore the good name, dignity, and rights of the two teachers who have long been affected by legal issues.
"With the provision of rehabilitation, the good name, dignity, and rights of these two teachers are restored," said Dasco.
At the same time, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said Prabowo's decision was the result of coordination among various parties over the past week. The government received requests from the public, the Provincial House of Representatives, and the House of Representatives.
"Over the past week, we have been coordinating and seeking guidance from the President, and then the President decided to exercise his right as President to grant rehabilitation to two teachers from SMA 1 North Luwu," Prasetyo said.
He said Prabowo's decision is a genuine form of appreciation for teachers' dedication as unsung heroes who must be recognized, respected, and protected by the state. The government will prioritize efforts to find the best solutions. "In the midst of problems or dynamics, we seek the best solutions," he said.
The two teachers from SMAN 1 Masamba in North Luwu, namely Abdul Muis and Rasnal, were dismissed as civil servant teachers by the Governors of South Sulawesi on October 4, 2025, and August 21, 2025, respectively. They were dismissed after collecting a Rp20,000 fee from students' parents in 2018. The money was given to contract teachers who had not received their salaries for up to ten months.
Abdul Muis and Rasnal were also reported to the police by an NGO for alleged corrupt practices. The case went up to the cassation level, and the panel of judges found them guilty and sentenced them to 1 year in prison.
