TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono announced that President Prabowo Subianto will attend the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from October 26 to 28, 2025. "The President plans to attend," said Sugiono at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Thursday, October 23, 2025.

He mentioned that Indonesia will address efforts to strengthen the relevance of ASEAN. "Especially ASEAN's relevance in the current situation," he said.

Sugiono also mentioned that Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva will also attend the ASEAN Summit. Sugiono said that Lula da Silva will depart for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, tomorrow. "President Lula is scheduled to depart for Kuala Lumpur to participate in the ASEAN Summit," he said.

The 47th ASEAN Summit is scheduled to take place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from October 26 to 28, 2025. This annual meeting will gather heads of state and government leaders from all ASEAN member countries, including the newly inaugurated Prime Minister of Thailand.

The Director-General of ASEAN Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sidharto R. Suryodipuro, explained that the series of meetings leading up to the summit will begin on October 24, which is a ministerial-level meeting. "Firstly, on the evening of October 24, there will be an expanded informal consultation on the implementation of the five-point consensus," said Suryodipuro, during a press conference at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs office in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.

The consultation will address the implementation of the Five-Point Consensus (5PC) regarding the situation in Myanmar, which includes cessation of hostilities, provision of humanitarian assistance, appointment and visits of special envoys, and inclusive dialogue. "So, all of this is a path towards the restoration of stability in Myanmar. In the 5PC, there is no discussion of its alteration," he said. Additionally, on October 25, the ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting will be held.

On the peak day of the summit, Sunday, October 26, ASEAN leaders will attend the opening ceremony, followed by the signing of the declaration of Timor-Leste's admission as the 11th member of ASEAN.

According to Sidharto, Malaysia, as the host, has also invited seven honor guests, including the President of Brazil, the President of South Africa, the Prime Minister of Canada, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, the President of the European Council, the Managing Director of the IMF, and the President of the World Bank.

The 47th Summit will also mark the end of Malaysia's chairmanship in ASEAN. At the closing event, the Prime Minister of Malaysia will hand over the chairmanship baton to the Philippines, which will host the next ASEAN Summit in 2026.
