TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated the Kabanaran Bridge in Bantul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, on Wednesday, November 19, 2025. The President also officiated four other hybrid infrastructure projects located in different provinces across Indonesia.
The additional projects include the Gatot Subroto Underpass in North Sumatra, the Sungai Sambas Besar Bridge in West Kalimantan, the Joglo Surakarta Underpass, and the Cangguk Flyover in Central Java.
In his remarks, Prabowo emphasized that infrastructure development is fundamental to improving economic equality and enhancing the quality of life. He added that upgraded connectivity also supports tourism growth.
"We heard there are plans to develop this area to support tourism. There may be good hotels, but facilities must support tourism. Tourism contributes to foreign exchange and creates jobs," Prabowo said, as broadcast by the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel.
Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo said the inauguration marks an important step in improving public land infrastructure and stimulating regional economic development.
“A total of two bridges, two underpasses, and one flyover were inaugurated today across four provinces, with a total investment of Rp1.97 trillion,” he said.
According to Dody, the newly launched infrastructure will help ensure smooth mobility ahead of the Christmas and New Year holiday period.
The Kabanaran Bridge and the other projects are expected to significantly boost local economies by improving logistics, supporting the movement of goods and services, and enhancing transportation safety.
The Kabanaran Bridge is a vital route for fishermen who depend on access to the southern coastline. It also supports salt farmers and the regional seaweed industry, which have long required a more efficient distribution corridor. The improved connectivity is likewise expected to spur growth in coastal tourism.
President Prabowo was accompanied at the event by Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and Governor of the Special Region of Yogyakarta Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X.
