TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The spokesperson for the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) Authority, or OIKN, Troy Pantouw, said that the Head of OIKN, Basuki Hadimuljono, will be the inspector at the flag-hoisting ceremony to commemorate the Indonesian Independence Day at Plaza Ceremony, Nusantara Central Government District (KIPP), East Kalimantan, on Sunday, August 17, 2025.
Troy said tomorrow's ceremony would be attended by the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum officials and local community figureheads. The ceremony would not be attended by central government officials, including Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
"It will be attended by cultural, indigenous, and local community leaders. No central government officials. Everything is for the joy of the surrounding residents," he said when contacted on Saturday, August 16, 2025.
A total of 38 members of the IKN flag-hoisting troops (locally known as Paskibraka) have been inaugurated on Friday, August 15, 2025. Troy said they have been practicing for the Sunday ceremony. "The Paskibraka are currently in training. They are local youths from around IKN," he said in a video statement shared today.
In the video statement, Troy showed around Plaza Seremoni, which will be the venue for the Independence Day ceremony. From the video, it can be seen that there are two large stages decorated in red and white.
He mentioned that one of the stages will be used for a performance by the Twilite Orchestra under the direction of Addie M.S. The stage will also be enlivened by a combined choir of students from schools around the IKN location.
In the evening, a public celebration will be held for the people. OIKN will provide a variety of culinary delights and entertainment for the local communities to enjoy.
At the beginning of August 2025, the Presidential Palace confirmed that Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka would participate in the 80th Indonesian independence day ceremony at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta. Meanwhile, the ceremony at IKN will still be held and led by the Head of the IKN Authority.
