TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Mount Semeru erupted again this morning, Friday, March 27, 2026, sending volcanic ash 1,000 meters above the peak.

Semeru Volcano Observation Post (PGA) officer, Yadi Yuliandi, said the eruption occurred at 05:27 a.m. local time. "The observed ash column is gray in color with thick intensity leaning towards the north and northeast."

The eruption was recorded on the seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 22 mm and a duration of approximately 2 minutes and 48 seconds. Less than three hours later, a subsequent eruption occurred with a column height of 700 meters above the summit.

The observed ash column was a thick, whitish gray leaning towards the northeast. This eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 22 mm and a duration of 140 seconds. The volcanic activity status of Mount Semeru remains at alert Level III.

Surrounding communities are urged to refrain from any activities in the southeast sector along the Besuk Kobokan up to 13 kilometers from the eruption center. Outside this distance, residents are requested not to carry out activities within 500 meters from the river edge along the Besuk Kobokan due to the potential impact of hot clouds and lava up to 17 kilometers from the summit.

Additionally, residents are advised not to carry out activities within a 5-kilometer radius from the Mount Semeru craters due to the risk of valcanic stone materials, hot clouds, and lava flows along Besuk Kobokan, Besuk Bang, Besuk Kembar, and Besuk Sat, as well as clod lava flows in smaller rivers.
