TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Malaysia extends its condolences on Tuesday over the deaths of Indonesian peacekeepers serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

The Government of Malaysia extends its deepest condolences to the families and to the Government of Indonesia on the loss of lives and injuries of Indonesian peacekeepers of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL),” according to a statement from the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, or Wisma Putra, in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, as quoted from Antara.

The attacks occurred near Adchit Al Qusayr and Bani Hayyan on Sunday, March 29, and Monday, March 30, respectively.

Malaysia said the deliberate attack on UNIFIL peacekeepers constitutes a grave violation of international humanitarian law and United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 1701.

Malaysia calls on all parties to fully comply with their obligations under international law, including the implementation of UNSC Resolution No. 1701 and other relevant UN resolutions, to ensure the protection and safety of UN peacekeepers, as well as the uncompromising protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure.

“Those responsible must be held accountable,” the ministry wrote in the statement.

The Malaysian government also reported that Malaysian Battalion (MALBATT) personnel currently serving with UNIFIL in Lebanon are reportedly safe.
