TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The schedule for the badminton tournament Macau Open 2025 is reaching its final stage. The players will vie for the championship at the Macau East Asian Games Dome on Sunday afternoon, August 3, 2025.
Out of the five final matches, two of them will be contested by Indonesian representatives. Alwi Farhan is the first hopeful. The 20-year-old men's singles player advanced to the final after defeating India's shuttler Lakhsya Sen in the semifinals.
Alwi displayed dominance and managed to end the match with a convincing score of 21-16, 21-9 against his more experienced opponent. In the final match, he will face Malaysia's representative, Justin Hoh.
This Malaysian player is a familiar opponent to Alwi. They had faced each other in the previous Macau Open. At that time, Alwi emerged victorious in the round of 16 with a score of 15-21, 21-16, 21-17. Overall, Alwi and Justin Hoh have met three times, with Alwi narrowly leading the head-to-head 2-1.
The next Indonesian representatives are in the men's doubles category, Sabar Karyaman Gutama / Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani. They reached the final after defeating the third-seeded pair from Taiwan, Lee Fang-chih / Lee Fang-jen, with scores of 21-19, 21-17.
Similar to Alwi, Sabar/Reza will also face Malaysian representatives in the final match, namely Junaidi Arif/Roy King Yap. This will be the third encounter between the two pairs after the Spain Masters 2024 and the Indonesia Masters 2023 (Super 100).
In the previous two encounters, Sabar/Reza emerged victorious, including in the final of the Spain Masters 2024, which led to them being crowned champions. They hope to continue their dominance, achieve a hat-trick against Junaidi/Roy, and claim their second BWF World Tour Super 300 title in their careers.
It's worth noting that this is the second consecutive Macau Open final for Sabar/Reza. Last year, they failed to become champions after being defeated by the Chinese pair, Chen Xu Jun/Liu Yi. Redeeming themselves will be an extra motivation to strive for the best in Macau Open 2025.
