TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned air navigation firm AirNav Indonesia stated that Radin Inten II Airport and four other airports have reopened for operations after being affected by the spread of volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau.

The four other facilities include Muhammad Taufiq Kiemas Airport in Lampung, Budiarto Airport in Tangerang, Pondok Cabe Airport in South Tangerang, and Salakanagara Tanjung Lesung Airport in Pandeglang, Banten.

Executive Vice President of Corporate Secretary at AirNav Indonesia Hermana Soegijantoro stated that despite reopening, these five airports remain under monitoring because volcanic ash clouds from Mount Anak Krakatau are still detected across flight sectors.

"Pilots are also reminded to remain cautious during arrival and departure procedures," Hermana said on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

Radin Inten II Airport resumed operations based on NOTAM B1159/26, valid from 9:45 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. on September 8, 2026. The NOTAM declared the aerodrome open and operational.

Alongside Radin Inten II Airport, the remaining four airfields also resumed operations following updated NOTAM notices.

According to Hermana, the issuance of the NOTAM notices is based on shifts in ash dispersal patterns affecting flight operations. Therefore, based on safety evaluations and updated aeronautical information, several airports were cleared to resume service.

Furthermore, Hermana noted that field conditions remain subject to ongoing monitoring, including periodic volcanic ash paper tests conducted at affected airport sites, which have yielded negative results.

AirNav Indonesia continues to track volcanic activity and ash plume dispersion from Mount Anak Krakatau while coordinating with relevant stakeholders.

"Monitoring and updating aeronautical information are carried out continuously to ensure that flight operations proceed with a focus on safety," Hermana concluded.
