TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Provincial Government plans to replace its old public minibuses (angkot) with electric vehicles. The plan is to introduce 100 electric Mikrotrans vehicles to upgrade the current fleet.
The Special Staff of the Jakarta Governor for Communication, Cyril Raoul Hakim (Chico Hakim), confirmed that the procurement of the electric Mikrotrans vehicles will commence next month. "The first phase will involve 50 units in December 2025, and the second phase, 50 units in February 2026," he stated in a written statement on Monday, November 17, 2025.
According to Chico, these electric vehicles will be managed by three operators: Koperasi Wahana Kalpika (KWK), Mayasari Bakti, and Steady Safe. These transportation companies have a history of collaborating with the Jakarta Provincial Government in operating public transit.
Chico explained that the new electric Mikrotrans fleet will feature various modern amenities. "These electric vehicles will have air conditioning, CCTV, GPS, and enhanced safety features," said the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle politician.
The Jakarta government is simultaneously running a program to renew its fleet and evaluate the conduct of drivers for the Mikrotrans JakLingko service. In addition to procuring the 100 new electric vehicles, the government is providing training and re-certification for the drivers.
The evaluation process follows thousands of user complaints registered throughout the year. Between January and October 2025, a ten-month period, 1,127 public complaints were lodged against Mikrotrans drivers. Approximately 68 percent of these complaints were due to reckless driving, while 22 percent arose from rude behavior, and 10 percent from drivers bringing along family members.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has since mandated the dismissal of drivers who engage in reckless driving. The dismissal sanction can be imposed if drivers fail to improve after evaluation. Pramono has instructed the Jakarta Transportation Agency to discipline the Mikrotrans drivers and ensure they receive further training.
"For JakLingko drivers who behave recklessly, I have asked the Head of the Transportation Agency to discipline and provide training," Pramono said in a written statement on Friday, November 14, 2025.
