TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Main Director of PT LRT Jakarta, Roberto Akyuwen, said that the new Light Rail Transit (LRT) route of Jakarta from Velodrome, Pulogadung, East Jakarta to the Manggarai area will be fully operational by August next year. Roberto stated that the construction of this route is still ongoing and targeted to be completed by December 2025.
Roberto mentioned that this route has a length of 5.8 kilometers with five stations.
"Currently, the route from Velodrome to Manggarai is under construction. Hopefully, this will bring us closer to the hub at Dukuh Atas," said the Ambon-born man to Tempo on Thursday, October 30th, 2025.
On the other hand, Roberto estimated that the number of passengers on this route will grow tenfold. It is projected that the light train will be able to carry 30,000 to 70,000 passengers daily on this route.
Roberto also mentioned that the ticket price for this route is set at Rp60,000. This amount is higher than the current price on the Pegangsaan Dua-Velodrome route, which is only Rp5,000. "Because the train's utilization is higher, the economy per passenger has become Rp60,000. This also reduces the subsidy by Rp55,000. Hopefully, the subsidy will become thinner, provided that the profit also increases," he said.
LRT Jakarta first operated on December 1st, 2019. The Jakarta Provincial Government prepared this light train to complement mass transportation in the Capital and to welcome the 2018 Asian Games.
The current route of LRT Jakarta is only 5.8 kilometers with six stations, stretching from the Pegangsaan Dua Station, Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, to Velodrome, Pulogadung, East Jakarta. LRT Jakarta has eight units which have been transformed into four train sets. All LRT trains are manufactured by Hyundai Rotem from South Korea.
For a single trip, this train can accommodate 270 passengers, each with 15 priority seats. However, LRT Jakarta's passengers only make up 10 percent of the total full capacity. In a year, LRT Jakarta can only carry 1.2 million passengers.
Despite being a small company among PT Jakarta Propertindo or Jakpro's subsidiaries, Roberto added that LRT Jakarta still recorded a gross profit of Rp103 billion in 2024. This amount increased by 1.90 percent from the previous year. LRT's revenue was recorded at Rp265.2 billion with a business profit of Rp7.8 billion. The majority of the revenue is still supported by a 94 percent subsidy.
LRT Jakarta's total assets were recorded at Rp389.9 billion in 2024, an increase of 2.22 percent compared to 2023. "We are one of the smallest companies in terms of assets, but we provide the largest profits among the seven Jakpro subsidiaries," he said.
