TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said on Monday that the second round of nuclear negotiations between the United States (US) and Iran will be held in Rome. This was reported by the country's main news agency ANSA and cited by Al Arabiya.
Iran and the US said they held 'positive' and 'constructive' talks in Oman on Saturday and agreed to meet again this week.
"We have received requests from the parties concerned and from Oman, which plays a role as a mediator, and we have responded positively," Tajani said as quoted by ANSA at the World Expo exhibition in Osaka, Japan.
Tajani said Rome has often hosted such discussions and is "ready to do whatever is necessary to support all negotiations that can lead to a resolution of the nuclear issue and build peace."
Earlier, the US news agency Axios, citing two unnamed sources familiar with the matter, reported that the second round of US-Iran talks will be held in Rome on Saturday, April 19, 2025.
US President Donald Trump - who has threatened military action if no agreement is reached to halt Iran's nuclear program - told reporters on Air Force One on Sunday that he met with advisors on Iran and expects a quick decision.
He did not provide further details. A day earlier, he told reporters that the situation in Iran "seems to be going pretty well, I think."
