TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said the government is considering scratching off those involved in online gambling, terrorism, and narcotics cases from social assistance beneficiaries. The government, he said, already has data on bank accounts involved in online gambling transactions up to narcotics.
"If detected, we consider removing them from the social assistance recipients," Prasetyo said at the Presidential Palace Complex, Central Jakarta, Friday, July 11, 2025.
The spokesperson for President Prabowo Subianto stated that the president has been committed to eradicating gambling, narcotics, and corruption since he assumed office in October 2024.
The Gerindra Party politician said there's no special directive from Prabowo to solve gambling and drug issues, but the president is seeking to organize population data for more properly targeted aid.
"Because there are moments where privileged people still receive social assistance," he said.
He said the government has the National Socio-Economic Single Data, or DTSEN. DTSEN functions to unify all data on the population, which is necessary to update social assistance recipients.
The Financial Transactions and Analysis Center previously reported hundreds of thousands of aid recipients involved in online gambling. From 28.4 million of IDs listed as aid beneficiaries and 9.7 million online gamblers, about 571,410 ID numbers were simultaneously online gambling players and aid recipients.
Last Sunday, Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf said online gamblers who receive social aid will be given education and evaluation, and they may no longer be eligible for aid.
Meanwhile, Minister of Manpower Yassierli said the discovery of social assistance money being used for gambling is beyond the government's control.
Today, House Speaker Puan Maharani requested the government to thoroughly trace and validate the findings of the misuse of social assistance by recipients for online gambling transactions. Because, according to her, it is possible that the data is being misused by others.
"It's possible they have no knowledge that their account is used for online gambling," she said on Friday, July 11.
