TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Equestrian Archery (IEA) team has successfully secured third place in the Youth Horseback Archery Asian Championships 2025 in Aktau, Kazakhstan, from August 13 to 16, 2025. Indonesia ranked second, behind Turkey, and Kazakhstan, as the host country, ranked first.
The horseback archery competition, organized by the Asian Horseback Archery Federation (AHAF), was participated in by 10 Asian countries, including Kazakhstan, Turkiye, Russia, Indonesia, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Malaysia, and Hong Kong.
The IEA sent 5 athletes, namely Daim Muflih Muafa, Dzzakir Alhanif, Arsa Wening, Aqila Fathiya, and Ahmda Bravy. In addition to the team's achievement, Indonesia also won a bronze medal in the Zhamby category, achieved by Daim Muflih Muafa.
Kharisma Zaky, the coach of IEA, stated that this achievement falls far short of the expected target. Zaky mentioned that the prepared strategies did not go according to plan, partly due to the availability of horses. Normally, one horse is used for two athletes, but in this competition, one horse was used for four athletes.
"We faced challenges with the availability of horses. In all the international competitions we have participated in, one horse is maximally used by 2 athletes. But this time, we were forced to use 1 horse for 4 athletes," Zaky said, quoted from a written statement by KBRI Astana received by Tempo on Monday, August 18th, 2025.
Throughout the four days of competition, despite Indonesia's horse-related challenges, they continued to fight to the maximum. The team did not give up and continued to strive to maintain points from the four categories to secure Indonesia's strong position in the top three in Asia.
On the final day, the situation became more dramatic as Indonesia's horse, used by four people, was declared unusable. Eventually, the team had to wait for the remaining horses used by other countries. Nevertheless, Indonesia still managed to secure the bronze. This hard work also served as a gift for Indonesia's 80th Independence Day.
"We almost gave up and withdrew. This is the worst competition we have ever participated in. But we had to stay strong and motivate the children to rise. Alhamdulillah, Daim Muflih won the bronze and the National Team maintained the third position in Asia," said Zaky.
Meanwhile, the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the Republic of Kazakhstan, also concurrently to the Republic of Tajikistan, Fadjroel Rachman, congratulated the Indonesian athletes on their achievement. He stated that this accomplishment contributes to advancing Indonesia's diplomacy in the largest and wealthiest country in Central Asia.
"We congratulate the achievements in the Youth Horseback Archery Asian Championships 2025 in Aktau, Kazakhstan," said Ambassador Fadjroel.
