Indonesian Embassies Issue Travel Advisory for Cambodia-Thailand Border Conflict

1 month ago 17

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Embassies (KBRI) in Phnom Penh and Bangkok are urging all Indonesian citizens to avoid or limit travel to conflict-affected areas in Cambodia and Thailand.

"KBRI Phnom Penh advises all Indonesian citizens to stay calm, be vigilant, and not panic," stated the official Instagram account of KBRI Phnom Penh (@indonesiainphnompenh) on Thursday afternoon, July 24, 2025, as reported by Antara.

The Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok conveyed a similar message.

"Observe the security situation from official sources and follow instructions from the local government," the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok stated on its official Instagram account, @indonesiainbangkok, on Thursday.

Indonesian citizens are also encouraged to increase their vigilance, remain calm, and avoid travel to the Thailand-Cambodia border.

According to the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh, there was an escalation of conflict between Cambodia and Thailand in the border areas of Oddar Meanchey and Preah Vihear Provinces, Cambodia, on July 24, 2025.

The embassy asks all Indonesian citizens to follow conflict developments through official sources, whether from Cambodian authorities, credible media, or the official KBRI Phnom Penh media channels.

The Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh also requests all Indonesian citizens to register on the Peduli WNI portal at www.peduliwni.kemlu.go.id. This will allow for data validation and facilitate communication with the embassy.

If assistance is needed, citizens can immediately contact the KBRI Phnom Penh hotline at +855 12 813 282 or +855 61 844 661 for consular matters.

Meanwhile, Indonesian citizens residing in Thailand for more than six months are advised to report their presence through the Peduli WNI portal at www.peduliwni.kemlu.go.id.

"Reporting yourself makes it easier for us to communicate in emergency situations. Report your whereabouts now!" stated the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok, as quoted by Antara.

Indonesian citizens in Thailand who need emergency assistance or information regarding those affected by the escalation are advised to contact the KBRI Bangkok Consular hotline at +66 92-903-1103.

On Thursday, clashes escalated between the forces of both countries on the Thailand-Cambodia border, beginning with gunfire between ground forces in a disputed neutral zone. Casualties have been reported on both sides, including civilians.

Tensions initially began with a clash on May 28 between the Thai and Cambodian armies in the disputed neutral zone, an area agreed upon in the Memorandum of Understanding on Survey and Demarcation of Border, and one of five unresolved border sections.

Since that incident, Thailand has placed border crossing points under military supervision, reduced operating hours, and tightened security measures.

Authorities in four Thai provinces bordering Cambodia have announced the evacuation of residents amid the escalation, according to The Nation newspaper.
