TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Minister of Education and Culture, Abdul Mu'ti, has shown concern regarding the popular gaming platform, Roblox, that is gaining popularity among students. According to him, the diverse online games provided by the application can be dangerous.
"There's a lot of violence in those games," said Abdul Mu'ti after inspecting the Free Health Check Program at SD Cideng 02 Pagi, Central Jakarta, on Monday, August 4, 2025.
He stated that these digital games have the potential to trigger acts of violence among children in their daily lives. According to him, underage students are not yet capable of distinguishing between reality and fiction.
"Their level of intellectual capacity is not sufficient. Sometimes they imitate what they see (on the Roblox gaming platform)," he said.
He is concerned that the habit of playing games containing violent elements will be adopted by children in real life. Mu'ti also believes that excessive gaming on mobile devices can have a negative impact on students' health.
"If they play too many games, they become lazy to move," he said.
This results in a lack of motor skills among children, causing poor blood circulation. "They then become emotional children as well," he added.
He stated that the use of mobile devices by children needs to be limited as much as possible. Mu'ti emphasized the crucial role of parents in supervising this aspect.
According to him, excessive use of technological devices can damage the physical habits of children, including reducing social activities in the real world that students should be engaged in.
"Moreover, some of these games are starting to be infiltrated by online gambling and so on," Mu'ti said.
He urged online service providers to offer educational services to Indonesian students. "Please help us. Do not provide services that can harm the mental and intellectual well-being of children," Mu'ti appealed.
