TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia welcomes the UN Secretary General's Gaza resolution, approved on Monday, November 17, 2025. Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang, in a written statement on Tuesday, affirmed Indonesia's support for international efforts to maintain ceasefire stability and facilitate humanitarian aid in Gaza.

"Indonesia welcomes the approval of the UN Security Council resolution regarding Gaza," said Yvonne.

The UNSC Resolution stresses a lasting resolve to the conflict through strengthening the Palestinian Authority, assisted reconstruction efforts, and the deployment of an international stabilization force operating under a UN mandate. "Indonesia continues to emphasize the importance of the involvement of all parties, especially the Palestinian Authority, in the resolution of the conflict and the peace process," she said.

Yvonne also stated that Indonesia will continue to support the Palestinian rights to independence and sovereignty, including through capacity building and humanitarian assistance. She called for international support to end the prolonged conflict and create lasting peace in the Middle East.

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto previously said at the UN General Assembly meeting on September 23 that Indonesia is ready to send at least 20,000 troops under a UN official mandate.

The statement was then echoed by Foreign Minister Sugiono, stating, "Indonesia is ready to contribute to the peacekeeping process."

UN Resolution on Gaza

According to the UN Security Council's report, the resolution, drafted by the United States as part of President Donald Trump's 20-point peace plan, approves the establishment of a transitional administration and an international stabilization force (ISF), and opens the path to Palestinian statehood after reforms are carried out by the Palestinian Authority.

According to Al Jazeera, several Muslim countries that had previously expressed interest in sending troops stressed the need for a UN mandate as a condition for participation. In response to the requests of these countries, the United States then emphasized Palestinian self-determination.

However, this change triggered the anger of Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu, who stated that Israel still rejects a Palestinian state and promised to demilitarize Gaza either by "the easy way or the hard way." Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir even rejected the resolution and called for strong action against Palestinian Authority officials if the UN pushes for the formation of a Palestinian state.

Role of the US and Formation of the Board of Peace

US Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz, in a statement after the vote, said that the resolution is an important step to enable Gaza to develop and ensure Israel's security. In the document, the stabilization force is set to work alongside trained and vetted Palestinian police, and coordinate with Egypt and Israel to ensure the flow of humanitarian aid. The resolution also mandates the ISF to support the demilitarization process in Gaza and use all necessary measures to carry out its tasks.

The resolution also establishes the Board of Peace (BoP), an international body overseeing governance, reconstruction, and security in Gaza. According to Waltz, the BoP will be led by President Trump and will be formed through diplomacy involving Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Turkey, Pakistan, and Indonesia. The ISF and BoP's tenure will continue until December 31, 2027.
