TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The U-23 Indonesian national team could not avenge their earlier defeat against Mali, but they ended their second friendly encounter with a 2-2 draw at Pakansari Stadium, Bogor Regency, on Tuesday night, November 18, 2025.
Indonesia’s goals came from Mauro Zijlstra in the 38th minute and Rafael Struick in the 52nd, while Mali’s Sekou Kone struck twice, in the 12th and 70th minutes.
The draw marks a clear improvement from their previous meeting over the weekend, which ended in a 0-3 loss for the Garuda Muda. Under the guidance of coach Indra Sjafri, Indonesia displayed greater confidence and were able to match Mali’s physical style of play. Both matches serve as final preparations ahead of the SEA Games 2025 in Thailand next month.
Match Highlights
Indonesia started the game on the front foot, creating early chances through Ivar Jenner and Mauro Zijlstra in the seventh minute. However, Mali broke the deadlock first. A well-placed cross from the right found Sekou Kone, who converted in the 12th minute.
Kone nearly doubled Mali’s lead in the 30th minute, but goalkeeper Daffa Fasya made a crucial save. Indonesia responded in the 38th minute when Hokky Caraka capitalized on a defensive error to set up Zijlstra for the equalizer.
After halftime, Mali again tested Daffa, who made another key stop. Indonesia then took the lead in the 52nd minute as Rafael Struick finished a goalmouth scramble. Mali pressed forward and eventually leveled the score in the 70th minute. Kone’s second goal, after escaping the offside trap, sealed the 2-2 draw.
