TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Minister of Agriculture, Amran Sulaiman, plans to cultivate cassava on one million hectares of land to support ethanol production for the 10 percent ethanol (E10) supply in fuel products.

Amran stated that the cassava cultivation program will be carried out across all regions of Indonesia. However, he has not yet specified the detailed areas as he is waiting for data from the Minister of Agrarian and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency, Nusron Wahid. "Where the agro climate is suitable (for the cultivation)," he said during a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.

In addition to cassava cultivation, Amran also mentioned that the government will carry out a project to cultivate 400,000 hectares of sugarcane fields, which is also a raw material for ethanol production, next year.

Amran explained that the total 400,000 hectares of land also includes the food estate project in Papua, Central Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, and South Sumatra. He estimated that the project would require a budget of around Rp10 trillion.

Meanwhile, the Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs, Zulkifli Hasan, believes that the E10 project can bolster cassava production for farmers. "Each hectare of land can generate an income of Rp80 million per year," he said.

As a result, Zulhas, as the coordinating minister is familiarly known, is optimistic that the sale of cassava in the market can grow to Rp1,500 per kilogram. "Because everything is valuable and will provide income," said the politician from the National Mandate Party.

According to Antara, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, mentioned that a road map for the implementation of E10 is still being prepared.

The plan to develop E10 fuel is based on the government's biodiesel drive, starting from the initial B10 (a mixture of 10 percent crude palm oil/CPO and 90 percent diesel) for diesel fuel. This biodiesel policy has now progressed to B40.

Furthermore, the government aims to implement B50 by 2026. Bahlil explained that the implementation of E10 is still awaiting the preparation of ethanol plants, both those using sugarcane and cassava as raw materials.
