TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia has condemned Israel's military operations in southern Lebanon, stating that they disrupt the operations of the UN Interim Forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL) peacekeeping mandate.
Indonesia has consistently condemned Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon, said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang. "These attacks worsen the security situation, endanger UN peacekeepers, and disrupt the UNIFIL mandate," Yvonne said in a brief text message on Thursday, April 2, 2026.
According to Yvonne, Indonesia also strongly condemned the attacks that killed Indonesian peacekeepers on March 29 and 30. The attacks claimed the lives of three peacekeepers, injuring five others.
Yvonne said the attacks caused great sorrow for Indonesia. "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs once again extends its deepest condolences and solidarity to the affected families, and prays for the swift recovery of the injured," she said.
Indonesia has requested the UN to investigate the incidents, as the perpetrators remain unknown. Indonesia did not explicitly accuse Israel of the attack.
The Indonesian government, she said, has not yet named any responsible parties in the attack, claiming that the UNIFIL probe is underway.
According to Yvonne, it is imperative that Indonesia release statements based on facts and thorough investigation to "credibly hold the attacker accountable."
Yvonne said the UNIFIL investigation aims to obtain complete information about the perpetrators and the motives behind the attack that claimed the lives of three Indonesian soldiers.
Yvonne said Indonesia has explicitly requested a prompt, thorough, and transparent investigation to unveil the facts, including the sequence of events and the responsible parties. "Reasserting that full accountability must be enforced, this process will continue to be supervised and monitored by Indonesia," she added.
