TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A large-scale rally in support of Palestine was held this morning in the southern area of the National Monument (Monas), Central Jakarta. Initiated by the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) and the Indonesian People's Alliance for Palestine (ARI BP), the event is a call for the Indonesian government to continue backing the movement to help the people of Palestine.
The demand is outlined in a five-point statement read by Cholil Nafis, the Chair of the MUI's Propagation and Fraternity Division, and was attended by thousands of protesters.
They requested that President Prabowo Subianto lead a global appeal, especially among Islamic countries, to stop the Israeli genocide and man-made famine currently striking the Gaza enclave.
"And to push for the full independence of the Palestinian people, as mandated by our 1945 Constitution, which states that colonialism must be abolished as it deviates from humanity and justice," said Cholil on Sunday, August 3, 2025.
The protesters also reiterate the condemnation against the genocide in Gaza, Palestine. Israel has massacred tens of thousands of people in the enclave, and starving more.
They also call on all leaders of Islamic and other countries who still have conscience and humanity to take immediate, concrete steps to stop the slaughter and the use of starvation as a weapon of war against the people of Gaza.
Third, the protesters also urged the governments of Egypt and Jordan to immediately lift the blockade and facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza in sufficient and sustainable quantities.
Finally, they ask all Muslims and people around the world to continue boycotting products affiliated with the Zionist regime of Israel. "And continue to pray with qunut nazilah until the genocide stops and Palestine achieves full independence," he said.
Several state officials, including Foreign Minister Sugiono, Culture Minister Fadli Zon, and House Member Mardani Ali Sera, attended the protest. In his speech, Foreign Minister Sugiono mentioned the plan to send 10,000 tons of rice as logistical aid to Palestine. Although he did not specify the exact date, he assured that the shipment would be made soon.
