TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono reaffirmed Indonesia's commitment to advocating for the people of Palestine against Israel. "Brothers and sisters in Gaza and Palestine. You are not alone, you will always be remembered, you will always be fought for, you will always be looked after by all the people of Indonesia," Sugiono said in a speech at the Pro-Palestine Action at the National Monument (Monas) in Jakarta on Sunday, August 3, 2025.
In a written statement, Sugiono highlighted the deep spiritual relationship between Indonesia and Palestine, emphasizing Indonesia’s desire for Palestine to achieve independence. He stated that Indonesia is taking concrete steps to support Palestine through advocacy in international forums and by sending humanitarian aid.
"Hundreds of billions of rupiah and millions of dollars have been sent there. This is a form of our real action as the Indonesian nation," he added.
Indonesia’s support for Palestine aligns with President Prabowo Subianto's mandate. The president has included the Palestinian issue in the government's agenda since his inauguration on October 20, 2024. Prabowo has stated that Palestine's independence is a key part of Indonesia's national struggle, as the country rejects all forms of colonialism.
Sugiono also stressed that Indonesia strongly rejects the genocide against Palestinians carried out by Zionist Israel and continues to oppose Israel's efforts to forcibly relocate the Palestinian people from their homeland. "Most importantly, the Government of the Republic of Indonesia will continue to fight for the independence of the State of Palestine," he said.
Sugiono announced that Indonesia will soon send 10,000 tons of rice to help alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Palestine. This follows a previous announcement in early July 2025 by Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman, who stated the Indonesian government was providing the rice as a humanitarian grant under a direct instruction from President Prabowo.
So far, Indonesia has distributed more than 4,400 tons of logistics and hundreds of billions of rupiah in humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
The Ministry of Agriculture is also preparing to manage a 10,000 to 20,000-hectare area in South Sumatra and Kalimantan with Palestine to ensure future food supplies. The delivery of the latest food aid will be coordinated with the Palestinian Embassy in Indonesia and is ready to be distributed as soon as requested.
