TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chief Justice Sunarto swore in nine Supreme Court justices and one ad hoc justice on Thursday, October 23, 2025. The inauguration and oath-taking ceremony were held on the 14th floor of the Supreme Court building in Central Jakarta.
Sunarto led the swearing-in ceremony, guiding the new Supreme Court justices through their oath. "I solemnly swear that I will fulfill the duties of a Supreme Court justice with utmost sincerity and fairness," the new members of the Indonesian Supreme Court said collectively, as broadcast on the Supreme Court's YouTube channel on Thursday.
In their oath, the justices pledged to uphold the 1945 Constitution, execute all laws in accordance with the Constitution, and serve the nation and the state.
The nine inaugurated Supreme Court justices are:
- Suradi - Criminal Cases Chamber;
- Ennid Hasanuddin - Civil Cases Chamber;
- Heru Pramono - Civil Cases Chamber;
- Agustinus Purnomo Hadi - Military Cases Chamber;
- Lailatul Arofah - Religious Cases Chamber;
- Muhayah - Religious Cases Chamber;
- Hari Sugiharto - State Administrative Cases Chamber;
- Budi Nugroho - State Administrative Cases Chamber; and
- Diana Malemita Ginting - State Administrative Cases Chamber.
After, an ad hoc justice for human rights, Moh. Puguh Hariyogi, took the oath.
"The plenary session for the oath-taking and inauguration of Supreme Court justices and an ad hoc justice at the Supreme Court is now officially closed," Sunarto concluded the procession.
Supreme Court justices and ad hoc justice are selected by the Judicial Commission based on the needs of the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court previously submitted the need for 17 Supreme Court justices and 3 ad hoc judges for human rights to the Judicial Commission.
The Judicial Commission then conducted a recruitment process to fill the vacancies in the Supreme Court. The selection process was carried out in stages, including administrative selection, feasibility tests, health and personality checks, and interviews. As a result, 13 candidates for Supreme Court justices and three candidates for ad hoc justices for human rights were forwarded to the House of Representatives.
The DPR's Commission III then held a fit and proper test for the judicial candidates. Finally, eight candidates for Supreme Court justices and one ad hoc justice were approved.
