TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia and Russia pledged to strengthen their bilateral ties with the signing of the Protocol of the 7th Meeting of the Working Group on Trade, Investment, and Industry (WGTII) on Thursday, April 9, 2026. The deal was inked by the Deputy for Economic and Investment Cooperation Coordination at the Indonesian Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Edi Prio Pambudi, and the Russian Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Vladimir Illichev.

The document is one of the outcomes of the economic and investment discussions between the two nations. "Through the signing of the Protocol of the 7th WGTII Meeting, both countries reaffirm their commitment to strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation," Edi stated in a release on Friday, April 10, 2026.

He noted that this collaboration aims to bolster market access, encourage investment, and foster the growth of value-added industries.

Edi explained that the protocol outlines specific agreements, progress in cooperation, and follow-up plans across several of both nations' priority sectors.

Furthermore, the document serves as a roadmap for implementing technical discussion outcomes, ensuring that bilateral cooperation remains both sustainable and effective. The protocol highlights several key areas of interest, including trade and investment, new and renewable energy, and the agricultural sector, specifically focusing on fisheries, fertilizers, and palm oil.

In addition, Indonesia and Russia noted ongoing cooperation in vital industrial sectors such as pharmaceuticals and healthcare, metallurgy, chemicals, aviation, and infrastructure.

The two countries are also seeking to extend their collaboration into logistics, special economic zones, the creative economy, environmental protection, and climate change, while simultaneously strengthening inter-regional relations.

The signing of the protocol was witnessed by the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Indonesia, Sergey Tolchenov.
