TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Nusantara Capital City (IKN) Authority is holding a reflection night at Kusuma Bangsa Park at the Nusantara Central Government District, Kalimantan. The event, which will kick off at 10:00 p.m. local time, is organized as part of the commemoration of the Indonesian Independence Day which falls on Saturday, August 16, 2025.
Special Staff of the Head of IKN Authority for Public Communication, Troy Harrold Yohanes Pantaouw, said the reflection night is held as tribute to the late Indonesian independence fighters. "To lower our heads and open our hearts, a remembrance that our independence was born from courage and sacrifice. From every drop of blood and tears shed for the red and white," he said in a written statement on Saturday, August 16, 2025.
Troy remarked that the national heroes' struggle continues to burn in the hearts of every child of the nation. According to him, the light of that struggle illuminates the steps of every citizen towards a prosperous Indonesia. "With the spirit of Unity and Sovereignity, the People's Welfare, and Advanced Indonesia, the flame of that struggle will continue to burn," he said.
Jokowi Led Last Year's Reflection Night
Last year, former President Joko Widodo led the reflection night at IKN. "We express our utmost respect for the kindness, sincerity, and sanctity of the heroes' sacrifices in serving the struggle for the happiness of the nation and the country," he said.
In addition to the reflection night, the ceremony to commemorate the 79th anniversary of Indonesian Independence was also held at IKN for the first time last year. However, this year, the Independence Day ceremony will be held at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta.
Over the past week, pre-event activities and preparations for the ceremony have been underway in Jakarta. The preparations include a parade procession, remembrance of the event ahead of independence proclamation, and performances by the Indonesian Air Force.
State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi said that the rehearsal was successful, and expressed appreciation for the teams involved in the celebration. "This is the manifestation of gotong royong (mutual cooperation)," he said on Thursday, August 14, 2025.
