TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) has revealed that dozens of judges have received bribes totaling billions of rupiah, based on monitoring conducted from 2011 to 2024. Over that period, 29 judges were named corruption suspects.

“These individuals are suspected of accepting bribes to manipulate court rulings,” ICW stated in an official release quoted on Thursday, April 17, 2025. “The total value of the bribes amounted to Rp 107,999,281,345 (around Rp107.9 billion).”

In response to the findings, ICW urged the Supreme Court to treat judicial corruption as a persistent and urgent issue.

“The Supreme Court must assess corruption vulnerabilities within the judiciary by coordinating with the Judicial Commission (KY), the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), and civil society groups,” ICW said.

ICW also emphasized the need to tighten both performance oversight and the selection criteria for judges to prevent further corruption in the judiciary.

Prior to this, four judges were designated as bribery suspects by the Attorney General's Office in the case of the acquittal of the corruption in crude palm oil (CPO) or crude palm oil (CPO).

The four are the Chief Judge of the South Jakarta District Court Muhammad Arif Nuryanta, and the panel of judges in the CPO corruption case Djuyamto, Agam Syarif Baharuddin, and Ali Muhtarom.

The Attorney General's Office named them as bribery suspects along with four other individuals. They are the lawyers Ariyanto and Marcella Santoso, the court clerk Wahyu Gunawan, and the Head of Social Security and License at the Wilmar Group Muhammad Syafei.
