TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Palestinian resistance group Hamas has handed over the bodies of deceased Israeli hostages after Israel threatened to reduce aid to Gaza on Tuesday, October 14, 2025. Hamas was also threatened by US President Donald Trump, who vowed to use violence against the Palestinian group if they did not disarm.
Israeli officials decided to limit aid and postpone plans to open the southern border crossing to Egypt because Hamas did what they deem as a ceasefire violation.
A few hours later, Hamas informed the mediators that they would transfer four bodies to Israel starting at 19:00 GMT, said an official involved in the operation as reported by Al Arabiya. The Israeli military stated that the Red Cross had received four coffins from Hamas and was on its way to surrender the corpses to the Israeli forces.
Israel's attacks over the past two years have destroyed much of the strip's territory. On Tuesday, Hamas stated that Israel killed people in Gaza and violated the ceasefire. Trump accused Hamas of breaking its promise to return the deceased, and threatened the group with violence.
"If they don’t disarm, we will disarm them," Trump told reporters in Washington after returning from a weekend trip to the Middle East. "And it will happen quickly and perhaps violently."
The Israeli military said on Tuesday that the bodies of four hostages repatriated by Hamas had been identified, including a Nepali student. Separately, a hospital in Gaza stated that it had received the bodies of 45 Palestinian citizens repatriated by Israel, also as part of Trump's plan to end the Gaza war.
In a statement, the Israeli military mentioned the two bodies beloned to Guy Iluz, an Israeli citizen, and Bipin Joshi, an agricultural student from Nepal. The names of the other two hostages have not been released at their families' request, the statement added.
Israel's military said Iluz was injured and abducted alive by Hamas fighters, but later succumbed to injuries due to a lack of proper care during his captivity amid the Israeli onslaught in Gaza. The military did not mention when he died, although his death was announced in December 2023.
On Monday, Trump announced a "historic dawn of a new Middle East" to the Israeli parliament, as Israel and Hamas exchanged the last 20 living Israeli hostages in Gaza for nearly 2,000 Israeli and Palestinian prisoners. Before the latest hostage's bodies were handed over to the Red Cross, Hamas had surrendered four coffins of deceased hostages, with at least 23 people suspected dead and one person unaccounted for, still in the Gaza Strip.
