TEMPO.COJakarta - Indonesia secured one spot in the semifinal round of the French Open 2025 badminton tournament on Friday, October 24. However, two other Indonesian representatives were defeated in the quarterfinals.

The lone pair to advance is the men's doubles duo, Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri. They progressed after defeating Malaysia's Junaidi Arif and Roy King Yap with a score of 21-14, 24-22 in a match at the Glaz Arena, Rennes.

Fajar / Fikri's Dramatic Win

Fajar / Fikri's journey was not easy, particularly in the second game, which was fiercely contested and reached a 20-20 deuce. Their experience and composure in critical moments enabled them to dramatically conclude the match and secure their place in the final four.

This victory ensures Indonesia retains a representative in the BWF World Tour Super 750 tournament. In the semifinal round, Fajar / Fikri will face another Malaysian duo, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik.

Aaron / Soh had previously defeated another Indonesian pair, Sabar Karyaman Gutama and Muhammad Reza Pahlevi Isfahani, eliminating them from the tournament.

Alwi Farhan's Defeat and Future Hopes

Apart from Sabar / Reza, men's singles representative Alwi Farhan was also defeated. He failed to conquer the seeded player from Thailand, Kunlavut Vitidsarn, losing after an intense one hour and nine minutes with a score of 14-21, 21-16, 8-21.

Alwi admitted he was unable to find his best game. "It was quite a tough match, and it's another lesson that I can learn," he said in a statement released by the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI).

Alwi's defeat followed the early elimination of his two senior counterparts in the men's singles sector, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting and Jonatan Christie, who were both ousted in the second round.

Despite the setback, which impacts his effort to secure a spot in the year-end World Tour Finals, Alwi remains focused on performance over calculations. "I will continue to do my best in the future. I don't want to focus too much on calculations for the World Tour Finals. If I qualify, it's a bonus, but the most important thing for the rest of this year is that I want to achieve better results," Alwi stated.
