TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian contingent wrapped up their campaign at The World Games 2025 with an impressive 20th place finish out of 116 participating nations. The multi-sport event, held in Chengdu, China, from August 7 to 17, saw Indonesia bring home a total of nine medals.
According to the official World Games website on Monday, August 18, the 26 Indonesian athletes secured four golds, four silvers, and one bronze. This marks a significant improvement from the 2022 edition in Birmingham, United States, where Indonesia placed 25th with two gold and three silver medals.
Dragon boat canoeing proved to be Indonesia’s strongest event, delivering three gold medals in the 10-seater 500 meters mixed, the open 8-seater 2,000 meters mixed, and the open 8-seater 200 meters mixed. The fourth gold came from Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi in women’s speed climbing.
The four silver medals were won in dragon boat canoeing’s 10-seater 2,000 meters mixed and open 8-seater 500 meters mixed, in wushu by Seraf Naro Siregar in men’s combined taolu-changquan-daoshu-gunshu, and by Kiromal Katibin in men’s speed climbing. Rajiah Sallsabillah added a bronze in women’s speed climbing, joining her compatriot Desak on the podium.
In the overall standings, host nation China dominated with 36 gold, 17 silver, and 11 bronze medals. Germany ranked second with 17 golds, followed by Ukraine in third with 16 golds.
The 12th edition of The World Games brought together thousands of athletes from 116 countries, competing in a wide range of non-Olympic sports as well as specialized disciplines from Olympic events.
