TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Metropolitan Police have yet to elevate the handling of the death of diplomat Arya Daru Pangayunan to the formal investigation stage. Police say they have not found indications of another person’s involvement.
The family, meanwhile, urges that the case be opened as transparently as possible. Tempo attempted to interview members of Daru’s family. However, his wife, Meta Ayu Puspitantri, declined to comment. “For interviews, please contact our legal team,” Meta said when reached on Thursday, December 11, 2025.
Members of the family’s legal team, Dwi Librianto and Nicolay Aprilindo, described what they see as irregularities in the handling of the case. They also outlined the steps taken by Daru’s family. The following are excerpts from interviews with Dwi and Nicolay conducted by Tempo reporters Mohammad Khory Alfarizi and Febriyan in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, on Monday, December 8, 2025, and continued by phone on Thursday night, December 11.

What steps has the family taken to uncover this case?
We have taken many steps. Among them, we sent letters twice to National Police Chief Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo on August 27 and September 16, 2025. We also sent a letter to the Chief of the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskirm), Comr. Gen. Syahardiantono. We asked that the investigation be followed up.
How have police responded so far?
There has been no response. But we were invited by the Jakarta Metropolitan Police on October 3, 2025. At that time, we requested documents on the progress of the investigation. To this day, we hold no data at all, including the autopsy results. We were not even allowed to check the crime scene then. We were invited again on November 26, 2025, to provide further explanations.
