TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Hundreds of people swarmed the residence of Ahmad Sahroni, a legislator from the NasDem Party and member of the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission I, in Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, on Saturday afternoon, August 30, 2025.
The incident took place at his home on Jalan Swasembada Timur XXII Number 52, Kebon Bawang, Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta.
Tempo’s observation showed several individuals forcing their way into the house of the former Deputy Chair of Commission III and ransacking its contents. Crowds were seen carrying out mattresses, pillows, refrigerators, washing machines, cabinets, and other household furniture.
Some also took valuables, including luxury watches, a driving simulator, branded bags, and designer belts. Documents such as family cards and diplomas were also seized.
Sahroni’s black Lexus was also badly damaged during the raid, with shattered glass scattered across the garage.
Several Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) personnel were deployed around the house to maintain order. As evening approached, they urged residents to leave.
“It’s sunset, let’s pray first,” one soldier told the crowd. The personnel also appealed to residents not to set the house on fire, warning that it was located in a densely populated area. “Please, don’t burn it,” another TNI soldier said.
The attack followed Sahroni’s recent controversial remarks regarding calls to dissolve the DPR. He dismissed the idea as excessive and branded those promoting it as “foolish people.”
“Is it really convincing to the public that dissolving the DPR would improve governance? Not necessarily,” Sahroni said during a working visit to North Sumatra on Friday, August 22, 2025. He acknowledged that criticism was acceptable but urged people not to resort to insults.
His comments quickly went viral on social media platform X, making his name trend and fueling widespread debate.
Sahroni later posted on his Instagram account, @ahmadsahroni88, sharing a photo of a masked Anonymous figure with the caption: “More and more foolish people take pride in their foolishness.”
