TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tropical Cyclone Hayley is located in the Indian Ocean, south of Sumba Island in East Nusa Tenggara. It has the potential to cause heavy rain in several regions of Indonesia over the next few days. Referring to the forecast of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) on Monday morning, December 29, 2025, the wind system formed from cyclone seed 96S on Christmas Day will become a category 2 cyclone.

"Moving southeast away from the Indonesian region towards the waters west of Australia in the next 24 hours," as stated in the official BMKG announcement.

Tropical Cyclone Hayley is expected to bring moderate to heavy rain to Bali. There is also the effect of heavy rain and strong winds in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

The BMKG team also notified sailors about the risk of high waves of 2.5-4 meters in the Indian Ocean south of NTT. Fishermen in the waters south of Central Java and East Java, south of Bali and Timor Island, the Bali-Lombok-Alas Strait, and the Savu Sea should be aware of moderate sea waves.

Meanwhile, Cyclone 98S, which formed on December 27, is currently located in northern Australia. The likelihood that this cyclone seed system will become a tropical cyclone is low. The BMKG has not detected any influence of this wind vortex on the country's weather.
