TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Astronomy professor from the Indonesian National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Thomas Djamaluddin, stated that the public can witness the pink moon phenomenon on Wednesday night, April 1, 2026.
"This year's pink full moon is on Wednesday night, April 1-2, 2026," Thomas told ANTARA in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Thomas explained that the full moon can be observed from dusk until just before sunrise.
He continued, the public can observe this phenomenon directly or with the aid of equipment such as a camera or telescope.
"It can be observed without equipment or with a telescope and camera," he said.
Thomas stated that this phenomenon is safe to observe, as there are no adverse effects.
"There are no negative impacts. The general impacts are the same as other full moons, namely increased sea tides because the Moon and Sun are almost in line with the Earth," he continued.
Thomas explained that this phenomenon is actually a regular full moon, but the term pink moon was coined for the full moon in April.
"The color isn't pink, it's the same as a typical full moon, yellowish-white. That's just an American name that's been used in the media," explained Thomas Djamaluddin.
According to information from the astronomy website Time and Date, the full moon phenomenon known as the pink moon will be observable on April 1-2, 2026.
The ideal time to enjoy this phenomenon is shortly after moonrise, or around sunset. When the moon is still low near the horizon, an optical illusion occurs. This atmospheric reflection makes the moon appear much larger and radiates a captivating golden glow.
