TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The wind from Cyclone 91W in the waters north of Papua continues to affect high waves in several domestic ocean areas. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued an early warning of high waves that sailors need to be cautious of from November 13-15, 2025.

The cyclone seed detected at coordinates 1.9 degrees North Latitude and 138.7 degrees East Longitude was last recorded with maximum wind speeds of 20 knots or approximately 37 kilometers per hour, and a minimum air pressure of 1008 hPa. In the latest early warning from BMKG, high wind speeds were detected in the Java Sea, then in the Karimata Strait and the northern Pacific Ocean off Papua, according to BMKG's official statement on Thursday, November 13, 2025.

According to BMKG records, the wind pattern in northern Indonesia is moving from southwest to northwest at speeds ranging from 4 to 30 knots. The wind speed in the southern region is the same, heading southwest.

BMKG predicts the potential emergence of high waves of 2.5-4 meters in the North Natuna Sea, western Indian Ocean off Lampung, western Indian Ocean off the Nias Islands, and the southern Indian Ocean off Banten. There is also a warning regarding an increase in sea waves up to 1.25-2.5 meters in several straits, such as parts of the Karimata Strait and the Makassar Strait. Similar waves are also present in the Bali Sea, Sumbawa Sea, and Banda Sea. The majority of the affected areas are located near the Indian and Pacific Oceans.

BMKG regularly advises small-scale fishermen to be cautious of wind speeds exceeding 15 knots, as well as sea waves above 1.25 meters. Barge boats should also pay attention to wind speeds exceeding 16 knots and wave heights exceeding 1.5 meters.

Ferry captains are advised to be cautious when wind speeds exceed 21 knots and wave heights reach 2.5 meters. Larger fleets, such as cargo ships and cruise ships, are required to monitor conditions when wind speeds exceed 27 knots and wave heights reach 4 meters.
