TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Bekasi City Metropolitan Police have updated the casualty count following a massive explosion and fire at a Bulk LPG Filling Station (SPBE) on Cinyosog Street, Mustikajaya, on Wednesday, April 1, 2026. Authorities confirmed that 17 individuals are currently receiving hospital treatment.
"Up to now, there are 17 people receiving treatment. Some have burns over 50 percent, and one of them is in a fairly critical condition," said Bekasi City Metropolitan Police Chief Commissioner Kusumo Wahyu Bintoro at the scene on Thursday, April 2, 2026.
Kusumo explained that while police initially recorded 14 victims on Wednesday night, the figure rose after reports of five additional casualties were confirmed.
The change in data occurred as officers rushed victims to several different facilities, including the Bekasi City General Hospital, Bekasi District General Hospital, and Al Rafiq Hospital. "While our current data shows 17 victims being treated in hospitals, this information will continue to be updated through the emergency post," he stated.
Kusumo added that the victims include a mother and her toddler. While the mother remains under medical care, the child miraculously escaped the blaze without suffering any burns. "There is a mother and a toddler. Fortunately, the toddler did not suffer burns. Her mother is being treated, and we hope for a speedy recovery," he said.
Police are continuing to log all victims and monitor their conditions. The emergency post established at the site has become the central hub for information and coordination between affected residents and the authorities. "Currently, our main focus is the safety of the victims. All data will continue to be updated through the post," Kusumo concluded.
