TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo reported that the central bank has already bought Rp273.9 trillion in government bonds (SBN). The Ministry of Finance used part of the proceeds to fund priority programs, such as people's housing units and the Red and White Village Cooperatives.
Bank Indonesia made the purchase in the secondary market. "In line with our monetary expansion program, BI bought government bonds in the secondary market amounting to Rp273.9 trillion, including the purchase of SBN for debt switching," said Perry during a working meeting with the House Commission XI in Jakarta on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.
This figure is slightly higher than the report presented by Perry in a press conference earlier this month, on November 3. At that time, the central bank reported that from January to October 30, 2025, it had purchased SBN worth Rp269.97 trillion.
Perry explained that there was a previous agreement with the government that part of the proceeds from the sale would be used to finance various flagship programs. The agreement was made between BI and the Ministry of Finance.
"Part of it is used by the Ministry of Finance to fund the government's priority programs. Especially those already underway, such as the housing for the people program and the Red and White Village Cooperatives,' said Perry.
The agreement between Bank Indonesia and the Ministry of Finance also includes sharing the bond yields from the SBN for funding these programs. "Of course, with the pattern, the interest burden is shared equally between the government and Bank Indonesia," he said.
Prior to this, Bank Indonesia and the Ministry of Finance had signed a joint decree (SKB) that became the basis for the burden-sharing mechanism. In a press release published by BI on September 4, 2025, this agreement will be in effect from 2025 until the end of the government program.
Under the burden-sharing mechanism, the central bank and the Ministry of Finance agreed to equally share the cost of SBN interest debt issued by the government to finance the housing program and the Red and White Village Cooperatives. Bank Indonesia will cover half of the SBN interest cost by adding interest to the government's account held at the central bank.
