TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Aurora Borealis tonight is projected to illuminate New York skies, just a day after the dazzling light show appeared across 21 states on Tuesday.
Stemming from one of the year’s strongest geomagnetic storms, the Northern Lights are likely to be visible across central and northern parts of the Big Apple.
According to PIX11, New Yorkers can expect visibility to begin around 8 p.m. Eastern Time, peaking about an hour later before starting fading around 11 p.m. However, visibility largely depends on the state’s cloud cover and high level of light pollution, which may make the aurora challenging to capture in its full brilliance.
Nearby regions such as the Catskills, Hudson Valley, northern New Jersey, and Connecticut may also have a chance of spotting the aurora, as noted by CBS News. To capture clearer viewing, stargazers can also use smartphone cameras as their sensitivity may faint glows otherwise invisible to the human eye.
This Wednesday’s Aurora Borealis display follows the G4 or greater geomagnetic storm earlier this week, specifically on November 11. Even a stronger and minor storm is projected to occur on November 13 and 14, respectively, according to the Democrat & Chronicle.
