TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - AirNav Indonesia announced plans to deploy 3,840 personnel to manage the expected surge in air traffic during the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year holiday season, locally known as the Nataru period.

According to AirNav’s Director of Operations, Setio Anggoro, the deployment will include 1,700 Air Traffic Controllers (ATCs), 1,000 Air Traffic Service Engineers, 160 Aeronautical Information Service Officers, and 490 Air Communication Officers.

“AirNav is fully prepared to ensure the safety of every aircraft taking off and landing during the holiday period,” Setio said during a press conference on AirNav Indonesia’s Nataru readiness in Bandung on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.

He noted that the Christmas and New Year season is not only the busiest travel period of the year but also an opportunity for AirNav to demonstrate its commitment to maintaining safe and efficient air navigation across Indonesian skies.

In addition to mobilizing nearly 4,000 personnel, AirNav has also readied more than 2,400 facilities covering communication, navigation, surveillance, air traffic control systems, and flight communication networks.

“AirNav has established comprehensive procedures for flight navigation, contingency operations, and disruption management,” Setio explained.

These include extending airport operating hours based on demand, waiving advance or extension fees, implementing collaborative slot management with OTBAN and airport operators, and ensuring the delivery of accurate, real-time aeronautical information.

AirNav estimates that total aircraft movements during the 2025–2026 Nataru period will reach around 76,972 flights, representing a 3.5 percent increase from the previous holiday season.

The company expects peak travel days to occur between December 19–20, 2025, with return traffic projected for January 3-4, 2026.

“During that period, daily flight activity across all airports is expected to reach between 4,300 and nearly 5,000 aircraft movements,” said AirNav Indonesia’s Chief Executive, Capt. Avirianto Suratno.
