TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tangerang Immigration Office has named 5 Nigerian nationals as suspects of immigration offenses. Their trading activities in Tanah Abang, Jakarta, were deemed illegal as they were conducted without permits.
"During their stay in Indonesia, these five Nigerian citizens were selling clothes in the Tanah Abang area of Central Jakarta, which would later be sold or sent to their home country," said Felucia Sengky Ratna, the Head of the Directorate General of Immigration for Banten, on Thursday, 13 November 2025.
According to Sengky, the five Nigerian citizens, identified as NC, KSN, AU, NWC, and AAI, not only violated immigration laws but also posed potential security and economic stability threats to Indonesia.
Sengky stated that these five Nigerian nationals didn't possess valid travel documents, visas, or residence permits. "Meaning, their presence here is illegal," said Sengky, adding that they are charged with Article 119 Paragraph (1) of Immigration Law, with a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison and payment of fine of up to Rp500 million.
The five Nigerian nationals were apprehended during the Operation Wirawaspada on October 4, 2025. According to Sengky, they were found in several locations in Tangerang Regency, namely in the Suvarna Sutera and Citra Raya housing estates.
After a probe, it was revealed that the five individuals have overstayed for thousands of days, with expired passports ranging from 1 to 4.5 years.
For instance, one of the suspects, identified as NWC, was found to have entered Indonesia in 2016 and had overstayed for more than 3,300 days with a passport that had expired since March 2021.
