TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The South Korean government on Sunday, April 6, 2025, announced that it has granted long-term resident status to 3 Indonesian citizens who helped evacuate elderly residents from a recent forest fire in the southeastern part of the country.

"(The government) has decided to grant resident status for special contributions to three Indonesians who helped evacuate the elderly from the forest fire," said Lee Han-kyung, deputy head of the Central Disaster and Safety Headquarters as quoted by Antara.

Except for Sugianto, there are no details available about the other two Indonesian citizens. The Ministry of Justice previously stated that they were considering issuing an F-2 visa for an Indonesian sailor known by the name Sugianto.

The 31-year-old man helped rescue around 60 elderly people from the deadly forest fire in Uiseong County, North Gyeongsang Province.

The F-2 visa, which guarantees long-term residency for its holder, can be granted by the minister of justice to foreign nationals who have provided "special contributions" to South Korea or are recognized for their role in advancing public interests.
