TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - For diabetes patients, exercise is a necessity. There are many types of exercises that can be done by diabetes patients, one of which is Zumba. Zumba is part of the aerobics exercise. As reported by Healthline.com, a 2023 study found that aerobic exercise can help regulate blood sugar levels, maintain weight, and provide other health benefits-especially for pre-diabetic individuals and those with type 2 diabetes (T2D).
Zumba can be a good exercise option for diabetes patients. Zumba combines dance movements and aerobics, making the workout fast and energetic. A 2024 study showed that Zumba is beneficial for people who are obese and can help prevent type 2 diabetes.
In Indonesia, Zumba is increasingly popular among various layers of society. One of the reasons is because this exercise feels more like a dance class, with music that makes the body want to move. There are intense and light movements that are alternated during one session. The goal is to increase heart rate and improve heart endurance. An average Zumba session lasts for 60 minutes and can burn around 369 calories.

As reported by klikdokter.com, Zumba can help in healthy weight loss, which will lead to more stable blood sugar control. Not only that, Zumba can also help improve blood pressure and blood lipid profiles such as high cholesterol and triglyceride levels, which are often found in diabetes patients.
The Zumba exercise became the choice of exercise followed by residents of Masale sub-district in Helens Play Mart Makassar in commemorating World Diabetes Day 2025. Participants of various ages appeared enthusiastic in following the Zumba movements guided by professional instructors. Energetic music successfully created a cheerful atmosphere, making this exercise session feel light and enjoyable.
The Chief Commissioner and Chair of the CSR Program of Holywings Group, Andrew Susanto, said that this event is part of the routine program held to educate the public about various health issues. "Through this activity, we want to show that preventing various diseases can start from simple habits, namely regular physical activity. Zumba is a fun and easy way to do that, so people can be more motivated to maintain their health," said Andrew Susanto.
In addition to improving fitness, consistent Zumba movements are known to help increase insulin sensitivity, burn calories, and maintain the body's metabolism to remain optimal. Andrew hopes that through this activity, more people will become aware that diabetes prevention can be done early through simple habits, including regular exercise.
