TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Waskita Karya (Persero) Tbk has just announced a project to improve and rehabilitate irrigation networks in several regions in Indonesia. "In accordance with Presidential Instruction Number 02 of 2025, these various projects will benefit the agricultural sector," said Waskita Karya's Director of Operations II, Dhetik Ariyanto, in a written statement on Sunday, December 7, 2025.
According to Dhetik, this program can accelerate food production by allowing the optimization of unproductive land due to irrigation issues.
The rehabilitation project, worth Rp282.6 billion, will be carried out in BBWS Cimanuk Cisanggarung, Sumatera II, Sumatera VIII, Nusa Tenggara II, Kalimantan IV, and BBWS Pompengan Jeneberang in South Sulawesi.
Furthermore, Dhetik stated that Waskita Karya will improve and rehabilitate the Tertiary Irrigation Network in the third phase in Banten Province. Waskita Karya targets the completion of several irrigation networks by the end of 2025.
As for the details, Dhetik explained that Waskita Karya will rehabilitate 21 irrigation areas in West Java and Central Java on the Main Regional Authority Network in BBWS Cimanuk Cisanggurang.
These consist of eight irrigation areas in Garut, four in Indramayu, three in Kuningan, five in Cirebon, and one in Brebes. "Waskita Karya will optimize non-rice fields to become more productive through land arrangement and irrigation systems. With this, existing rice fields can increase their planting index," he said.
Dhetik explained that the optimization project includes soil and water conservation in agricultural land, building irrigation or drainage systems at the farmer level, and rehabilitating water gates and water storage buildings.
After that, Waskita Karya will install nationally standardized water pump units (SNI) and prepare and process the land.
Meanwhile, for the project in BBWS Sumatra VIII, Dhetik mentioned that Waskita Karya is working on two irrigation areas in Lahat, South Sumatra. In addition to canal normalization, Waskita Karya will install revetment stones in that irrigation area.
Dhetik believes that the irrigation network rehabilitation program can ensure the availability of irrigation water throughout the year. Consequently, according to Dhetik, multiple planting seasons can occur, leading to increased harvest yields.
