TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that two Indonesian citizens have died in the massive fire that swept through the Wang Fuk Court residential complex in Tai Po, Hong Kong, on Wednesday, November 26, 2025.
The Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong (KJRI) is closely monitoring the situation of Indonesian citizens in the area following the fire.
"Through intensive coordination between KJRI Hong Kong and the Hong Kong police, it has been confirmed that, as of now, two Indonesian citizens have been declared deceased and two others injured," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a written statement from Jakarta on Thursday, November 27, as reported by Antara.
The Ministry confirmed that all victims, both deceased and injured, are Indonesian migrant workers employed in the domestic sector.
KJRI Hong Kong continues to coordinate with local authorities and relevant parties to monitor the situation and provide assistance to affected Indonesian citizens.
The Consulate has opened temporary shelters at the KJRI building and provided logistics support for those impacted.
"KJRI Hong Kong has contacted the families of the affected Indonesian citizens to express deep concern and condolences, provide clear information, and update them on the next steps," the Ministry stated.
The Consulate is also coordinating with local labor authorities and agencies to facilitate the repatriation of deceased Indonesian citizens and ensure their rights are fulfilled.
The fire killed at least 36 people, including one firefighter, and left 279 others missing. Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu reported that 29 victims are being treated in hospitals, seven in critical condition.
According to the South China Morning Post, seven apartment blocks were affected by the fire. Three blocks appear darkened externally, while the remaining four sustained varying degrees of fire damage.
Over 140 fire engines and more than 800 firefighters and paramedics were deployed, with drones used to monitor the situation throughout the night.
