TEMPO.CO, Jakarta The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) revealed that Tropical Cyclone Narelle is strengthening. It is predicted that the maximum wind speed of this tropical cyclone will increase to category 4 (100 knots) within the next 24 hours from Wednesday night, March 25, 2026.

Currently, its maximum speed is 65 knots or a category 3 tropical cyclone. It is located in the Indian Ocean west of Australia, or south of West Nusa Tenggara (approximately 930 km south-west of Sabu).

BMKG is monitoring Cyclone Narelle as it moves southwest, and the increase in its strength will indirectly impact the weather and waters of Indonesia. This will include medium to heavy rainfall and strong winds in West Nusa Tenggara and East Nusa Tenggara.

Other impacts include moderate high waves (1.25 - 2.50 m) in the western Arafura Sea, Sawu Sea, waters south of East Java to East Nusa Tenggara, south of Java Sea, south of Bali, and south of West Nusa Tenggara. Meanwhile, high waves (2.5 - 4.0 m) are predicted to occur in the waters south of East Nusa Tenggara.

Tropical Cyclone Narelle developed from Tropical Cyclone 96P, which reached cyclone intensity on March 17. It began to enter the monitoring area of TCWC Jakarta on March 21, and BMKG classified it as an ex-cyclone in the Indonesian Rain Potential for March 24-30, 2026 on March 23.
