1. Tracking Tropical Cyclone Senyar's Path After Making Landfall in Aceh
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tropical Cyclone Senyar is predicted to have re-entered the waters of the Malacca Strait east of Aceh today, on Thursday, November 27, 2025. The cyclone made landfall on Sumatra, precisely in Langsa, Aceh, on Wednesday morning, making it a very rare event.
Information from the Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG) states that Senyar, which previously grew from cyclone seed 95B, is expected to weaken into a tropical depression. The prediction is that the maximum wind speed, which was observed at 65 km/h on Wednesday night, will decrease to 55 km/h by tonight.
2. Jakarta's Giant Sea Wall Project Delayed Over Budget Constraints
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The construction of Jakarta’s sea wall, known as the Giant Sea Wall, has been delayed due to budget and logistical constraints, officials confirmed.
The project, part of the National Capital Integrated Coastal Development (NCICD) initiative, aims to protect northern Jakarta from frequent flooding.
Ciko Tricanescoro, Head of the Flood Control and Coastal Development Division at Jakarta’s Water Resources Agency (DSDA), said via messaging app on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, that “the delay is mostly due to budget availability.”
3. Tropical Cyclone Senyar Makes Rare Landfall in Aceh
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Storms rarely make landfall in Aceh. But the 95B cyclone seedlings intensified into Tropical Cyclone Senyar, wreaking havoc in the Malaysian Peninsula with major floods, and extreme rainfall in the northern parts of Sumatra.
Growing unusually in the narrow strip of the Malacca Strait since November 21, this storm made landfall in Langsa, Aceh—near the border with North Sumatra—on Wednesday morning, November 26, 2025.
Erma Yulihastin, a climate and atmosphere researcher at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), considered this a highly unusual event.
